What is Project SAMA?

Project SAMA is interested in learning about what things make life harder or easier for you.

We are particularly interested in your emotional well-being at school.

Project SAMA needs the help of young people so that we can understand what life is like for you in school and how this affects your emotional well-being. We also need your help to create some new programs that could run in schools that could have an impact on the well-being of people your age.

FAQs

How is Project SAMA working with your school?

If your school has agreed to taking part in Project SAMA, they are helping us to understand how we can change things in your school to promote your well-being.

What will you be asked to do?

Firstly, you will be asked if you would like to take part in Project SAMA. If you chose to take part, you will then be asked to give your assent. We will also require consent from your parent/ carer for you to take part.

In Year 1, you will be invited to online focus groups with other young people so that we hear what you think should change in schools and help us create plans. Your views and experiences are important to us as you are the expert of what it is like in school. We are very interested in hearing and understanding whatever you can tell us.

In Year 2, young people in Grade 9 will be invited to take part in some of the interventions. We will provide you with all the information you need to help you decide if you would like to take part.

Will taking part affect my education?

No, your day-to-day education delivered by your schoolteacher will not be affected in any way.

What will happen to your information?

If you have chosen to take part, you will receive a unique ID number, and this will be matched up to the information you provide during your time on Project SAMA. Only the Project SAMA research team will be able to view this information and they have all agreed to keep this information private and confidential. When we write up the results of our project, we will never use your name, and no one will be able to tell what information or answers you have given in Project SAMA. we will not share this with anyone else. However, if you tell us something that makes us think that you may be at risk of serious harm, we might have to tell some else about this. If this happens, we will speak to you first and only share this information to keep you safe.

For more information have a look at our pupil information sheet.
