Parents should encourage their children by sending them back to the school and slowly increase the time that they are required to sit back in a class in person. I could understand the online lessons but it was easier when we were taught face-to-face with our teachers. I am happy to meet my friends and new teachers. Going back to school has been cool but wearing a face mask and not lending or sharing things with friends has been hard - I sometimes broke these rules! During online classes sometimes there were technical problems with the internet and I was missing the lessons but now I am happy to return school and I don’t have to worry about missing content. It got boring being at home and just watching TV I did miss the learning process of being at school.”</image:caption>

We have had to adapt to virtual learning, despite this change almost 90% of us adolescents globally have excelled in our learning still. Our teachers have outshone their finest skills on virtual learning despite it being new to them as well. However, it has resulted in excessive stress. Due to spending so much time online, ophthalmologists have recommended the 20-20-20 rule to reduce eye strain. Despite this virtual classes often take up to an hour this can make it hard for a lot of us as we commonly get eye strain. I have noticed that as I am less physical activity I become fatigued over the smallest things.”</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Jointly led by colleagues from the University of Leeds, UK, and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, India, Project SAMA responded to this need by building on international evidence to co-design and feasibility test a multi-component whole school systems-based intervention.  With Indian young people, parents, teachers, and emotional well-being professionals from across the state of Karnataka, India, we co-designed four interventions to work synergistically across a school. The aim of the interventions were to help young people take care of the own well-being whilst also building the capacity of the school, parents and community to promote and protect youth well-being.</image:caption>

It is estimated that 1 in 5 school-going adolescents live with anxiety, stress and / or depression. There is a need to both protect and enhance the emotional well-being of adolescents so they can flourish. School is central to the lives of adolescents, shaping their emotional well-being in complex ways. Project SAMA aimed to harness the potential of schools to promote the emotional well-being of adolescents.</image:caption>

Our ultimate goal was to promote emotional well-being and reduce the prevalence of anxiety and depression in school-going Indian adolescents. Project SAMA took a systems approach, recognising the various ‘systems’ which shape adolescent well-being.
