NYSOS - National Youth String Orchestra of Scotland
The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland & Reserve Section

03 - 08  August  2009
University of Stirling, , ,

Enrolment Form

The National Youth String Orchestra of Scotland and its Training School were established in 1969 to give young string players of a wide range of abilities the opportunity to play, in large string orchestras, music which perhaps they would not be able to experience in their local situation. The works studied and performed are from the rich string repertoire stretching from the 17th century to the present day. The Association has, by commission and sponsorship, added valuable new pieces to this repertoire for both the technically advanced players of NYSOS and the less advanced players of the Training School. Rehearsal time at the course is shared between full orchestral rehearsals and sectional rehearsals. Each section of each orchestra has its own specialist tutor and each orchestra has a different conductor.

The National Youth String Orchestra of Scotland (NYSOS) welcomes applications from young string players of Grade7/8 standard.

Over the years NYSOS has had as its conductor many distinguished musicians, and for the 2009 course the conductor will be Gerry Docherty.

Participants will perform in a concert at the conclusion of the course. Details will be provided to participants on arrival.

The Training School caters for young string players aged 8 years to 16 years and of Grade 2-7 standard. There are two orchestras, NYSOS Training Orchestra and NYSOS Junior Orchestra.

We are keen to encourage all string players and particularly those who play viola and double bass.

The Training School is staffed by experienced professional players and teachers from all parts of Scotland. We are delighted to welcome John Stevenson to conduct the Training Orchestra and Fred Parry to conduct the Junior Orchestra.

The course concludes with a public concert in on Saturday 08 August at 12 noon
