Macintosh and St. Salvator's Halls, University of St Andrews KY16 9HT. Please download an enrolment form from www.nybbs.co.uk

The N.Y.B.B.S was formed in 1958 and has built up an excellent reputation for high quality tuition and performance. The main emphasis of the course is on education and improving overall standards, but this is done without detracting from the single most important element of music - enjoyment. Since 1994, the band has been led by the inspirational Richard Evans.

The N.Y.B.B.S, its Reserve Section and the newly created Children's Band (formerly the Training Band), cater for brass and percussion students under the age of 21 of all abilities from Grade 3 upwards. Each year, a varied programme of suitable music aimed at each target group is carefully chosen to maximise the experience for all young players.

The N.Y.B.B.S has toured abroad on several occasions and to celebrate its Golden Jubilee visited Japan for an extensive concert tour with venues in Tokyo, Kyoto,Hamamatsu and Yokohama amongst others. Many specially commissioned works have been composed for the Band from the pens of composers such as Malcolm Arnold, Peter Maxwell Davies and Alan Fernie. Without a doubt, the N.Y.B.B.S showcases some of the finest young musicians in Scotland.

The N.Y.B.B.S has broadcast frequently on B.B.C Radio, produced three highly acclaimed CDs and also featured on both the CD and DVD of the highlights of The European Brass Band Championships 2004. Tutorial staff are among the most sought after players, teachers and conductors in the country: Recent tutors and guests include Russell Gray, John Barber, Frank Renton, Lyndon Baglin, Simone Rebello, Philip Sparke, Geoffrey Brand, Maurice Murphy, Steven Mead, Geoffrey Whitham and many more.

All applicants will be auditioned on arrival for playing positions in what is deemed the most appropriate band. This will be based on age, experience and ability. The music studied by all bands will contain a mixture of new and traditional items chosen to enhance all players' technique and musicianship.

All students will enjoy excellent food and comfortable accommodation in the University Halls of Residence. The Reserve and Training Band course will conclude with concerts in the Younger Hall, St. Andrews at 3.00pm on Saturday 7th of August. 2nd to 7th  August   2010
Macintosh and St. Salvator's Halls. Please download an enrolment form from www.nybbs.co.uk

The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) was formed in 1958 and has built up an excellent reputation for high quality tuition and performance. The main emphasis of the course is on education and improving overall standards, but this is done without detracting from the single most important element of music - enjoyment.

The NYBBS, its Reserve Section and its Children's Band cater for brass and percussion students under the age of 21 of all abilities from Grade 3 upwards.

The Reserve Band will be led by John Boax. This group is designed primarily for players who have not quite reached NYBBS standard or for whom there are simply no vacancies in the NYBBS. Recent bands have been of an increadibly high standard highlighting the strength of youth bands throughout the country. The Children's Band, led by Gordon Evans, provides a wonderful opportunity for young, inexperienced players to enjoy the pleasures of playing in a full band of like-minded enthusiasts while receiving quality tuition. In 2010, for the first time , this band will be for players aged 13 or younger. The Children's Band works along with the Reserve Section and together they have a team of dedicated, experienced tutors. All applicants will be auditioned on arrival for playing positions and the music to be studied will contain a mixture of new and traditional items chosen to enhance all players’ technique and musicianship. The course will finish with a concert in the Younger Hall.

All students will enjoy excellent food and comfortable accommodation in the University Halls of Residence which has well-appointed twin and single rooms.

The Reserve and Training Band Concert will be held in the The Younger Hall, St Andrews on Saturday 7 August at 3.00 pm. The NYBBS will perform in concert later that evening at 7.30 pm in the same venue.

Fees
£340  Including full board and tuition

For the Reserve Section a non-returnable deposit of £50 should be forwarded by 17 April 2010. The outstanding balance to be paid by 26 June, 2010.
